Tokyo Midtown Conference Public Area Refurbishment

The design of all public areas were unified with the concept of "Japan Value". Natural elements were incorporated by taking hints from Japanese methods, giving the inorganic existing space an airy feeling as if light and breezes are flowing through. The entrance hall was redone in the image of a mossy garden with a long path through a bamboo grove, and was realized in collaboration with the artist Yuji Sakai who created a giant graphic work of art with a length of about 50 m. The foyer which serves as the main space has washi-covered walls and is illuminated by indirect lighting from the wood baseboards, creating a space wrapped in soft, gentle light. The newly installed sign was designed with an origami motif and also serves as a spatial accent.
