“Mosoro” is a word that appears in Izumo no Kuni Fudoki (733 AD). There, in the “land netting myth,” it is used to describe how an ancient god cast a great net over the land and “mosoro” (slowly, carefully) pulled in smaller realms, which he then stitched together to form the ancient province of Izumo (now the eastern portion of Shimane Prefecture). To this day, the prefecture has four distinctive regions — Oki, Matsue, Iwami and Izumo. Each is expressed within the décor and cuisine of Restaurant Mosoro. Such expression extends beyond the restaurant to include floor designs indicative of the Oki, Iwami and Izumo areas, allowing guests to experience Shimane in all its historical richness.
