Shinjuku TOYU Building

Refreshing, like water; pleasant, like the colors of fruit – these motifs are expressed throughout the spatial design of this building. Pendant lamps hanging softly over the firstfloor entrance hall are but one example. The floor pattern is another; and the reception counter, a third. All are suggestive of water, of refreshment; and, in the manner in which droplets merge into crystals, of the flow of time as well. The second floor provides a lounge for office tenants. It too brings out the aspect of refreshment, here with gradated flooring suggestive of spring greenery. A central atrium is gently illuminated by pendant lamps, reminiscent of fruit hanging from a tree.
