Lions Shimura Sakaue Residence

We proposed a resident-friendly, comfortable and private residence. We utilised earthy, textured tiles to create a heavy side wall with deep shading, which contrasts with the light glass handrails. The exterior was designed to change its appearance with light and wind. The approach to the entrance is coloured by cherry trees in spring, and we put natural stone walls there to express 'delight in living together with nature'. We designed the entrance lounge to represent the historic and natural landscape of Azusawa. The communal private garden was planned to be filled with flowers and greenery, including cherry trees, during all seasons. It also has a spring fed pond to recreate Yakushi no izumi, a nearby spot of historic interest.
